Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's initial title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on court had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional title, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet saved four early chances in a close final set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
